The Beartooth Pass is among the most scenic highways in the United States, topping 10,947 feet (3,337 meters) with views that feel like you’re at the top of the world. It is also the home to a ski area that doesn’t even open until late May! This tour will take us through Yellowstone to Cooke City, then onward to the summit of the pass. From that point, we will turn around and return.
Along the way, we will enjoy the most wildlife-rich part of Yellowstone, and may have the chance to see mountain goats near the summit of the pass. There are also numerous small mountain lakes, and there’s almost always snow somewhere on the Beartooth. We will make stops to enjoy everything.
Note: This will be a long day of driving, so we will need an early start to fully enjoy it. It is also possible at any time, even in the height of summer, for the pass to temporarily close for weather. (My wife and I once narrowly squeaked through ahead of a winter storm that closed the pass… in late June!) In the event of a weather-based cancellation, we will either reschedule or refund you. See the cancellation policy for more details.
