Yellowstone’s southern loop is the most thermally active part of the park, and is home to famous features such as Old Faithful and Grand Prismatic. This area has the highest density and number of thermal features than anywhere else in the world!
This full-day tour will allow you to view all of the various thermal features: geysers, hot springs, mud pots, and fumaroles. Many can be seen from boardwalks with easy accessibility.
But the south is not just about thermal features. We can also visit Yellowstone Lake, the largest freshwater lake above 7,000 feet in North America, and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, featuring unique vistas and two large waterfalls. Also on this route are the Hayden valley and the continental divide (where there is a lake that drains from both ends, one to the Pacific and one to the Atlantic).

What you should bring

- Good shoes
- If hiking, wear wool socks and a good pair of comfortable shoes or boots.
- Layers!
- No matter what time of year you visit, layers of clothing you can add or remove are crucial. Even in the summer, mornings can be in the 40s or 50s (in degrees Fahrenheit), while afternoons can be in the 80s or 90s.
- Sun protection
- Long sleeves/pants, sunscreen, hat, etc. The sun is powerful out here!
- Rain gear
- Rain can spring up out of nowhere, so having a raincoat and rain pants available is important.
- For any children under 60 lbs, you will need to bring a car seat.
